Learn, Get Stronger, Surpass Others! Let's learn from these foreigners, make ourselves stronger, and surpass them!
Explanation of the Slogan:
Fukuzawa Yukichi was willing to make changes so that Japan wouldn't fall
behind America and the European nations. Due to the fact that he knew Japan was far
behind the westernized nations in terms of most aspects, he knew that change was necessary
for the Japanese to survive. Though Japan would want to keep an
isolation policy in effect, over time , stronger nations will barge in forcing ports to open (like they had).
This slogan is to encourage the Japanese to learn from the westerners, if they really want to keep
their nation strong and have enough power to stop foreigners in
the future, they must push forward and advance. Fukuzawa Yukichi's Philosophy and ideals:
Hoped to educate populace in Japan
Wanted Japan to be free of the influence of western powers

Was a supporter of Japanese imperialism

Let's learn from these foreigners, make ourselves stronger, and surpass them!
